Phillies Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

The Phillies cut ties with J.C. Romero earlier this offseason when they declined to pick up the $4.5 million option for the 2011 season. But they never burned the bridge that eventually brought the veteran left-hander back to Philly.

After a deal fell through to replace Romero with left-hander Dennys Reyes, the Phils opted for familiarity. Romero took a pay cut. The end result was the Phillies and Romero agreeing on terms of a one-year contract that will make the 34-year-old the team's primary left-handed reliever. Romero will likely team up with young lefty Antonio Bastardo to give the bullpen two lefties for the 2011 season.

Romero's deal won't be complete until he completes a physical, which was expected to take place after the New Year's holiday.
