Padres infielder Jerry Hairston Jr. threw for the first time since going on the disabled list and said he's optimistic about getting back on the field. Hairston was pleased after making 30-40 throws at about 80 percent velocity. "I wouldn't be smiling, believe me," Hairston said. "I can't hide my emotions.
