Brandon Morrow provided the Blue Jays with one of their most memorable moments in August when he struck out 17 Rays and came within a two-out single in the ninth of pitching a no-hitter.
But Morrow provides inspiration in another way by merely doing his job. In high school, he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Morrow and other athletes who are able to compete at a high level with diabetes offer encouragement to others who also have it.
The right-hander is never reluctant to talk about it. There was the time in Anaheim, for example, when he was with the Seattle Mariners. "Someone just kind of waved me down and said, 'Could we talk to you for a sec?'" Morrow said. "Of course, I stop and talk with them for as long as they want.
