Oakland had the best pitching in the league last season, with a 3.56 ERA. The starters' ERA was 3.47—and that was with a rotation that averaged 23 years of age much of the way.
Can the A's repeat that kind of success on the mound this season? They will be without last year's two veteran starters, but then neither finished out the season—Justin Duchscherer had hip surgery and Ben Sheets elbow surgery. Four of the five primary starters after Sheets' season-ending injury return: All-star Trevor Cahill and left-handers Brett Anderson, Gio Gonzalez and Dallas Braden.
Not many teams have a fourth starter who has a perfect game to his name, so Oakland appears set up to the fifth spot.
