INSIDE PITCH

The A's are likely to have three of their regulars on the disabled list by the time Thursday's game starts at Texas. After Oakland's 4-1 loss at Rangers Ballpark on Wednesday, Brandon Inge made it clear he believes he will land on the DL because the sore groin that has kept him out of the past four games has not improved. If anything, it felt a little worse Wednesday, he said, when he was doing running drills. The A's could backdate the move to Sunday, adding Inge to a list that includes outfielders Coco Crisp and Yoenis Cespedes (and the team's projected starting third baseman, Scott Sizemore, who tore his ACL on the first day of the spring). It's unclear what move the A's might make. They initially considered bringing up an outfielder, Michael Taylor, when Cespedes went on the DL, but they added utility player Josh Donaldson instead. Donaldson, though, received some pointed criticism from manager Bob Melvin after Wednesday's game; he failed to charge a slow bouncer by Craig Gentry with two on and two outs in the fourth, and he double-clutched before throwing. The Rangers scored two more in the inning. The A's have only two infielders at Triple-A Sacramento on the 40-man roster: Adam Rosales and Brandon Hicks.
